Battery Decoding is one the most important thing whenever you are going to buy a new battery or sometimes buying a old vehicle. Do you know that by reading the serial number of battery you can read its manufacturing date and then you will know that how old the battery is. This will protect you from the most common spam of batteries which is going nowadays in the market. Here we will know about the decoding of serial number of battery one by one. There are many companies which manufacture batteries and different companies have different methods for decoding the serial number of battery. Lets find about it one by one:
Exide serial number battery decoding:
Serial number of Exide battery consists of combination of 11 digits and letters in which 3rd letter is a capital alphabet letter which represents month of manufacturing time and at 4th place the is number which represent the manufacturing year. Let’s understand this with the help of an example:
M 7 L 3 M 6 3 7 2 0 4
Here is method for proper decoding method
If 3rd place has these following letters then it means
- A represents January
- B represents February
- C represents March
- D represents April
- E represents May
- F represents June
- G represents July
- H represents August
- I represents September
- J represents October
- K represents November
- L represents December
And at 4th place identification is if
- 1 represents year 2021
- 2 represents year 2022
- 3 represents year 2023
- 4 represents year 2024
- 5 represents year 2025
- 6 represents year 2026
- 7 represents year 2027
- 8 represents year 2028
- 9 represents year 2029
So now in above example we have L 3 it means battery is manufactured in December 2023.
Note: This method is applicable for that serial which is printed on paper on battery. The number which is engraved on battery is different from the serial number printed on paper and there is different method for engraved number.
