Here are some safety precautions for safety of driver and long life of tractor:

  • While parking tractor always lock hand brakes.
  • While traveling at high speed on road brake paddles should be locked.
  • Never allow untrained person to drive tractor.
  • Never drive tractor at neutral position while coming down from a hill or a slop.
  • While filling diesel engine should be off.
  • Never use tractor in closed shed or garage.
  • Never take a turn at high speed.
  • Never wear loose clothes near PTO when it is in working.

Do’s for long life of tractor:

  • Always try to fill fuel tank in the evening after working day.
  • Always keep tractor clean and nut & bolts clean.
  • If there is any leakage of fuel or oil then immediately stop it.
  • Before starting tractor gear lever should be in neutral position.
  • After parking tractor always use parking brakes.
  • Clean battery terminals and apply petroleum jelly if there is corrosion on terminals.
  • Before parking tractor for long hours keep lower links down and implement also if there is any.

Don’ts to save life of tractor:

  • Don’t rest your feet on clutch paddle.
  • Don’t overload the engine.
  • Don’t use grease on battery terminals to protect from corrosion instead use petroleum jelly.
  • Don’t use independent brake while driving on road.
  • Don’t spray water stream on air pre cleaner bowl.
  • Don’t release cutch paddle jerk.
  • Don’t use tap water for battery instead always use specific water.
  • Don’t change both fuel filters at a time and to better understand about take a look to maintenance chart.
  • Don’t use hazard lights for more than 20 minutes continuously.

Troubleshooting

Here are some basic problems which may happen with tractor and their possible reasons:

  • Engine not starting or starting with difficulty:
    • Fuel level is not sufficient to start tractor.
    • Air trapped in fuel lines.
    • Engine is not cranking with sufficient speed which may be because of high viscosity oil which is due to selection of wrong engine oil.
    • Fault in injection nozzles.
    • Compression leakage which is due to leakage of air from valves and from cylinder inner walls because of wear and tear in piston & cylinder walls.
    • Wrong adjustment valve clearance setting.
  • Engine overheating:
    • Blower is not working (it may be because of fault in blower bearings or loose V belt).
    • Air inlet fins are dirty or clogged.
    • Leakage of engine oil from top head assembly which sticks on air inlet fins and make them dirty which causes over heating of engine.
    • Low level of engine oil.
    • Wrong adjustment valve clearance setting.
  • Abnormal working of engine or engine stops:
    • Blockage in fuel lines.
    • Wrong adjustment valve clearance setting.
    • Compression leakage in valves.
    • Leakage in cylinder head joint.
  • Blueish white smoke problem from exhaust:
    • Oil level too high.
    • Oil scraper rings are wornout.
  • Black smoke from exhaust problem:
    • Wrong setting of valve clearance.
    • Air cleaner is clogged.
    • Fault in nozzle.
    • Crack in injector compression spring.
    • Inlet mask valve is rotated from its original position (this is only applicable for NC engines only).
  • Engine is not taking load properly or engine is dropping RPMs:
    • Air cleaner is clogged.
    • Bad quality of diesel.
    • Wear & tear in piston liner & rings.
    • Incorrect valve clearance adjustment.
    • Internal wear in engine.
    • Leakage of compression from valves.
    • Governor & injector are not working.
  • High engine oil consumption:
    • Selection of poor quality & wrong grade of engine oil.
    • Wear & tear in valve guide.
    • Wear in piston rings and cylinder walls.
  • High fuel consumption:
    • Air cleaner clogged.
    • Wrong fuel injection timing.
    • Quality of diesel is poor.
    • Overloading of engine.
    • Fault in fuel injector.
    • Tyre pressure is not correct according to situation.
  • Abnormal sound form transmission while working:
    • Low level of transmission oil.
    • Teeth of gears are wornout.
    • Sharpen gear teeth.
  • Difficult in gear shifting:
    • Adjustment of clutch paddle free play is wrong.
    • Tightness of sliding gear on main shaft splines.
    • Sliding gear is broken.
  • Gear slipping:
    • Fault in gears (i.e. wear & tear in gear teeth).
    • Wear & tear in main shaft.
    • Defect in interlocking pin.
    • Gear shifting rod is damaged.
  • Hydraulic lifts are not working:
    • Hydraulic oil level is low.
    • Fault in hydraulic pump.
    • Air trapped oil line.
    • Setting of ADDC levers is not correct.
    • Fault in Pressure relief valve.
  • Hydraulic pump overheating:
    • Wrong setting of ADDC levers.
    • Blockage in hydraulic high pressure lines.
    • Pressure differential valve is sticky.
    • Setting of pressure valve is wrong.
  • Implement is not stopping at its required position:
    • Leakage in piston ‘O’ ring.
    • Leakage from cylinder relief valve seat which releases hydraulic pressure.

Ballasting

To avoid wheel slippage owner can mount extra weight in tractor’s wheels i.e. 15 kg weight plates (which is recommended by the company) for front wheel which can provide 60 kg extra to front part of tractor which decreases the chances of front lifting of tractor. Weight plates each of 40 kg (recommended by the company) can be used for rear wheels which can provide 160 kg extra weight to tractor for traction.

Another method for ballasting is water ballasting and for that extra support of jacks should be provided to tractor and deflate tyre, now rotate the wheel in such a way that valve body is in 11’O clock position then start filling water and for that you can use high pressure pump or do this with the help of gravity by placing water tank 6 feet above from valve body. After filling water in tube let extra water to be out and fit valve body then inflate 8 psi air pressure in tyre. This process will also provide extra traction to wheels.

NOTE: Don’t do both the process for ballasting, you have to choose only one of these either weights or water ballasting. Doing both the things for ballasting will create extra load on engine and more fuel consumption.
