John Deere 5045 D tractor

Fuel saving tips:

  • There should be no leakage in fuel lines.
  • There should be proper air pressure in tyres according to size and condition (you can check table given above for tyre pressure).
  • Thermostat should work properly (CAUTION: Don’t remove thermostat because after removal of this valve temperature for proper working of engine will be maintained).
  • There should be proper free play clutch, brake paddle and alternator/fan belt.
  • There should be proper lubrication of front spindles and other greasing points.
  • Always drive tractor on recommended load.
  • Always use company recommended oil filters and follow maintenance schedule for servicing of fuel injection system.
  • Follow proper service maintenance schedule for servicing of tractor and pump and nozzles also.
  • Always drive tractor on recommended RPMs.
  • Read user manual before operating tractor.

Precautions:

  • While servicing battery there should be not fire or spark near battery such as candle because it cause explosion in battery and serious injury.
  • Don’t fill coolant when engine is hot (let it cool down only then fill coolant).
  • Don’t use any metallic object to test battery’s life instead always use voltmeter or multimeter.
  • Don’t mix petrol in diesel to increase performance because it can damage pump and nozzles internally.
  • While using differential lock front wheels should be in a straight direction.
  • Use 4 wheel drive system only there is strong need i.e. using 4 wheel drive system on road can cause damage in some internal parts.

Here is details about lubrication oil type and oil amount which is very helpful during periodic service schedule:

Oil & Lubrications

PartAmountType
Engine6.5 litresSAE 15W-40
Transmission & Hydraulics32 litres for grease axle
30 litres for oil axle
BIO-HY-GARD
Coolant9.8 litresJohn Deere COOL-GARD II
GreaseAs requiredJohn Deere GREASE-GARD

If oil in any part is below than recommended marks then that should be up to recommended mark.

Type of engine oil may change according to weather conditions and for that you should contact to nearest authorized service provider.

Instrument cluster

  • Tachometer with 3000 maximum engine RPM.
  • Air cleaner clog indicator.
  • High beam indicator.
  • System charging indicator.
  • Engine oil pressure gauge.
  • Hour meter.
  • Engine coolant temperature indicator.
  • Turn indicator lights indicator.
  • Fuel gauge.
  • Reverse PTO indicator.

Weight capacities

To maintain proper safety of tractor it is very important to drive tractor below maximum weight capacity of tyres because mounting extra weights than recommended will result in high fuel consumption and damage in tyres and other parts of tractors. Here is table of maximum weight capacity according to tyre size which is not only for this tractor but for all the John Deere tractors in India:

Front per max weight load
Tyre sizePly ratingWeight capacity (kg)
6.00*168534
7.50*168750
8.186800
Rear Per tyre maximum load
Tyre sizePly ratingWeight capacity (kg)
12.4*28121211
13.6*28121329
14.9*28121545

Ballasting

Weight rings of 48 kg are available for tractor which should be used for ballasting to avoid wheel slippage. While mounting weights on tractor’s wheels it is very important to tight the weight bolts with specific torque and better understand about it here is a table:

PartsTorque amount
Front disc to hub210 Nm
Rear disc with rim245 Nm
Rear disc with hub bolts550 Nm
Bolts for ROPS adjusment420 +- 10 Nm
Rear weight with disc230 Nm

Water ballasting is also good option to avoid wheel slippage but before doing this there are some points which should be noticed:

  • Fill 75% water and 25% air in rear tyre.
  • In case of extreme cold conditions (i.e. temperature less than 0°C) 600 gram of Calcium chloride should be mixed with 1 litre of water to avoid freezing of water and damage to tyres.

To get good performance from tractor it is very important to select the right implement for tractor. Here is a implement chart to deeply understand about it:

Implement selection

ImplementType
MB plough2 bottom
Reversible MB plough1 & 2 bottoms
Disc plough2 disc
Offset Disc harrow12 and 14 discs
Trailed disc harrow12 to 14 discs
Cultivator (rigid spring)7 to 11 tines
Rotavator1.25 to 1.50 metre

NOTE: Type of implement will change according to soil condition especially in case of rotavator.

To maintain tractor properly here is maintenance chart in all items of periodic schedule are shown and some other are shown below that but there are some items which may be replaced before the given time period such as air cleaner element because it depends on environment conditions and fan belt etc.
